The first thing I see when I look out my window is my flag of the United States of America blowing in the breeze. Often, I will sit and gaze at the flag - great focus for thinking. These are my musings and ramblings, and, on occasion, rants... I am unapologetic in my support of our military, our country and my devotion to God. I will honor them and pay tribute to them here. Along the side bar you will find tributes to Oregon's fallen warriors.

I served with SFC Henkes in Korea and at Fort Lewis. What a great leader! I was deeply saddened to learn of his death. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Staff Sergeant (P) Kimball, Master Gunner
Thank you for sharing your memories of this fine man.
Rich was one of the most Special people I have ever met. I will never forget him, and am deeply saddened that I won't get to see him or say goodbye the way I would have liked to. I saw him in December of 05 just after he returned from Korea. We were supposed to get together before he left, and i feel terrible that we didn't. I was too busy and expecting a baby. I have been in tears almost daily, but am happy to know that the last time I saw him we shared the biggest hugs and laughs I have with anyone to date. I hope everyone who knew him realizes what a special person he was.
Sheri-
with great sympathy on your loss of your friend.
richie was my uncle and i love him very much. i just went to ft. lewis to welcome his soldiers and i have never met a group of finer people. they all loved him and respected him so much. my heart breakes that he is gone, but i know he is in heaven looking down on everyone he loved and cared about!
I served in the same company (A-1/23 INF) with SFC Henkes at Fort Lewis several years ago when he was a brand-new Sergeant and I was a Private just out of basic training. Although we were in different platoons, we often worked together and I knew him to truly be a man of honor and a tough, competent NCO. My heart skipped a beat when I saw this website and learned he was gone. God speed, SFC Henkes. 2nd to None. --CPT Thompson
Hey there gazing at the flag...I really appreciated this remembrance on Richard Henkes. Would you mind if I reprint it in a self published newspaper I am working on? BTW, I also am an artist who works in fiber too. I read you were under the weather, I hope you are on the mend.
I remember the day Rich told me he wanted to join the Army. My heart sank but I was proud at the same time. I also remember the most horrific day of my life. Sept. 3, 2006. I grieve everyday. I just can't believe he is gone. I love you, Rich and miss you so much.
