SGT Chase A Haag, Farewell and God Speed

SGT Chase A Haag

CPL Chase A Haag lost his life October 1, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Haag was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Chase was from Portland, Oregon. His rank was upgraded to SGT after his death.

Chase Haag graduated from Parkrose High School in 2002, and joined the United States Army.

His brother, Brandon, said of Chase, "He gave his life the only way he thought was right, and nobody can take that away from him."

In his last letter home, he wrote, "We are happy as our tenure here is coming to an end, but we are dog tired, exhausted and ready to get out of here. Thank you for thinking of us, and we are doing good things."

Friends and teachers remember Chase as a leader and a funny guy with a zest for life.

He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Gilkison, father, Frank Haag, sister, Ana Haag, and brothers, Brandon Haag and Marine Cpl Taylor Haag.
