Boy Scouts in Iraq ~ Thanks to the Marine Corps!

The Scouts are participating in Clean-Up Day!

Did you know that there are more than 150,000 Iraqi Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in all 18 Provinces?! The photo above serves as a great reminder that children really are the same everywhere. This effort was funded by your generous contributions to our Marines Fund, read the whole story here at our "Support Iraqi Scouts Project". Thank you!

Spirit of America has been gathering equipment for the reestablishment of Scouting in Iraq. The program has been coordinated by the United States Marine Corps!!!

And just to recap what the Boy Scouts in Iraq were like under Saddam:

Iraq Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Council

"After the Baath party took control in 1968 and especially after Saddam Hussein seized power in 1979, youth groups were retooled to serve the state. One replacement program, Saddam's Cubs, offered "summer camps" where 10 to 15 year-old boys endured 14-hour days filled with hand-to-hand fighting drills. In 1990, during the period when the Iraq Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Council (Arabic: جمعية الكشافة و المرشدين العراقية ) was recognized by WOSM, the Mesopotamian nation had 12,000 Scouts, however by 1999, Iraq had been expelled from the WOSM."

If we were to give up in Iraq now just as the left wants us to, this fledgling reestablishment of the Scouts in Iraq would no doubt be lost (along with a lot of other good things we've done and are still doing there).

Jason-
I knew part of that, but not what he made the scouts do - the man was truly a monster.

Thank you for the additional information.

We MUST continue the fight!
