Corporal William C James, 24, lost his life in service to our country in Iraq. He was a rifleman with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

William graduated from Huntington Beach High School. He had dreamed of military service most of his life; saluting soldiers in the Fourth of July parades when he was a boy.

He had signed up for Embassy duty, but requested a change to combat duty after September 11.

Cpl James had planned to stay in the Marine Corps until retirement.

Cpl James will be honored in a ceremony in Huntington Beach on December 17.
