A Hero to Remember
"The One"
Unidentified Navy Seal
For Actions in Asadabad, Afghanistan
June 27-28, 2005

Details on the citation are not yet public, in order to protect the identity of the recipient.

"The One" was part of a four-man team inserted behind enemy lines June 27, 2005, east of Asadabad, Afghanistan. Anti-coalition forces spotted them the following day and promptly alerted the militia forces. The SEALs fought valiantly. Three of the four SEALs were wounded and forced into a ravine, where they radioed for help. An MH-47 Chinook helicopter with eight more SEALs and eight Army troops aboard went to the rescue, but was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade and crashed, killing all aboard.

"The One" was provided cover by his wounded teammates and evaded capture by the enemy. He was given shelter by a shepard in the area who assisted in his return.
